Last autumn, the government failed to feed our young people and councils like Ealing and local restaurateurs stepped up to ensure children normally on free school meals would be supported. Together with the work of Marcus Rashford, the government committed a u-turn and agreed to fund school holiday meals through the pandemic.
However, last week the government stated they wanted funding to continue over the summer, but only put enough funding for 4 out of the 6 summer weeks. Last night Ealing Council’s cabinet stepped up to the plate once again and agreed funding to ensure 3,280 children won’t go hungry this summer. It’s time the government stepped up and ended food poverty! #NoChildShouldGoHungry
